The aim of this module is to introduce you to the fundamental principles of immunology. What mechanisms do we use to fight infection? Where and when do these responses take place? How do we survive in the world of pathogens? The science of immunology attempts to address these questions and many more.

The immune system is a very complex one, and immunologists have developed their own 'language' to describe it. The terminology can seem mystifying to the uninitiated, but hopefully the lectures will clarify all. In addition, our understanding of how things work in the immune system is based on the interpretation of experimental results. Consequently, concepts and ideas can change rapidly with novel observations.

The study of immunology is one of the most rapidly growing in biomedical research, and many important questions remain unanswered. It is hoped that this module will inform, stimulate and challenge you, and introduce you to the fascinating world of immunology.
